Data Residency and International Transfers
By default, Claude API calls are processed on Anthropic's infrastructure, which spans data centres in the United States and potentially other non-EEA jurisdictions. For European enterprises subject to GDPR Chapter V restrictions on international transfers, this requires a valid transfer mechanism.
Anthropic's DPA includes Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) โ the most widely used transfer mechanism for EU-US data flows since the invalidation of Privacy Shield. Data Retention, Deletion, and Claude's Context Window
GDPR's storage limitation principle requires that personal data is not kept longer than necessary for its purpose.
