Step 1: Prepare and Load Your Research Data

Export your research artefacts in text format. For interview transcripts, export from Otter.ai, Dovetail, or your recording tool as TXT or DOCX files. From this research synthesis, write a 5-bullet engineering context brief. Focus on: the specific technical pain points users mentioned, integrations or data they wish existed, performance or reliability issues mentioned, and the workflow context that affects UI/UX decisions. Keep it factual — no editorialising.
Executive Summary Prompt
From this research, write a 3-paragraph executive summary: (1) what we learned about user problems, (2) how this changes our product priorities, (3) what we recommend doing as a result. Keep it under 200 words. This is for the CPO and CEO.

Handling Large Research Batches

Claude's 200,000-token context window accommodates approximately 20–25 average-length interview transcripts simultaneously (each typically 5,000–8,000 tokens). For larger research batches, use a two-pass approach:

  1. Pass 1: Synthesise in groups of 15–20 transcripts. Run the primary synthesis prompt and save each group's output as a summary document.
  2. Pass 2: Load all the group summaries into a fresh canvas session. Run a consolidation prompt: "These are synthesis summaries from four batches of interviews. Produce a single unified insight memo, noting where themes appeared across multiple batches and any contradictions between groups."
